The CREAMi works differently from a classic ice cream maker. Instead of churning a liquid base while it freezes, you freeze the base solid first, then a blade shaves through the block at high speed. The result is smooth, and it works with bases a churn could never handle.
How it works
Mix a base in the pint, freeze it flat for about 24 hours, lock it in the machine and press a program. Ninja's Creamify technology shaves through the frozen pint in a couple of minutes. There are seven programs: Ice Cream, Gelato, Sorbet, Milkshake, Smoothie Bowl, Lite Ice Cream and Mix-In.
Why people love it
Control. You decide what goes in, so high-protein pints made from a shake or Greek yogurt, low-sugar sorbets from frozen fruit and fully dairy-free versions are all easy. This is why the CREAMi became a fixture on fitness and recipe boards: a pint of protein ice cream that actually tastes like ice cream.
Fixing a crumbly pint
Low-fat and very cold bases often come out powdery on the first pass. It is normal. Add a splash of milk, press Re-spin, and the texture turns creamy. The Mix-In program then folds in chocolate chips, nuts or cookie pieces without pulverising them.
The trade-offs
It is loud, similar to a blender, for the minute or two it runs. It needs planning, because a base has to freeze for a day, so many owners keep two or three pints in the freezer. And pints are model-specific: this NC301 takes NC299 and NC300-series pints only.
Cleaning
The pints, lids and paddle are top-rack dishwasher safe. The motor base only needs a wipe.

Bases that work first time
Most CREAMi bases follow the same pattern: a liquid, something for sweetness and something for body. A protein shake with a spoonful of pudding mix or cream cheese is the classic high-protein pint. Blended frozen fruit with a little juice makes a sorbet without any added sugar. Coconut milk makes a rich dairy-free base.
Always fill to the max line and no further, freeze the pint on a flat surface with the lid on, and let it sit for a few minutes on the counter if your freezer runs very cold. Process on the matching program, then re-spin if needed.
Looking after the paddle
The Creamerizer paddle is the part that does the work, and most durability complaints trace back to pints that were not frozen level or were overfilled. Check the surface before processing; if it has frozen with a hump in the middle, let it soften slightly or scrape it flat. Never process a pint that has not frozen solid, and wash the paddle soon after use so nothing hardens on it.
Should you buy it?
Buy the CREAMi if you eat ice cream often and want to control sugar, protein or dairy. Skip it if you want dessert on impulse without planning a day ahead, or if a loud minute in the kitchen is a deal-breaker.

Yes. Protein shakes and Greek yogurt bases are among the most popular uses; use the Lite Ice Cream program and a re-spin if the first pass looks powdery.
Very cold or low-fat bases often come out powdery on the first pass. Add a tablespoon of milk and press Re-spin.
Yes, for the minute or two it runs, similar to a blender.
Only pints from the NC299 and NC300 series. NC100, NC200, NC500 and NC700 pints do not fit.

Final verdict
The easiest way to make genuinely smooth ice cream at home, including high-protein and dairy-free versions. It is loud and it needs a day of planning.
What owners report
Gathered from what long-term owners consistently say, not from a single test.
Owners love the texture and the freedom to control ingredients, with people turning yogurt, fruit and even unusual bases into creamy pints. The one-touch programs are called simple. Noise is the most common reservation, and a minority report paddle or blade durability problems, so follow the manual and never process a pint that is not level.
